MRI SIGNA HDe 1.5T
HDePatientBrochure.pdf
MRI stands for Magnetic Resonance Imaging, a non-invasive diagnostic procedure. This is a valuable medical exam that uses magnetic fields and radio frequencies to generate detailed anatomical and functional images. Unlike the older scanners, this new scanner picks up exquisitely detailed images of otherwise tiny buried structures such as nerve roots and it can take thinner slices or more views of the body from top to bottom and in far less time. The scans are then sent immediately to a radiologist and your physician for their review via systen called PACS. A picture archiving and communication system.
Preparation for the Exam:
- Eat normally
- Take your usual medications unless your doctor gives you other instructions
- Wear comfortable clothing
- Arrive 15 minutes before your appointment
What to Expect:
- You will be asked to remove your eyeglasses, watch, jewelry, credit cards, dentures, hearing aids and any other metallic objects you are carrying.
- You will lie down on a cushioned table & when you are comfortably positioned the table will move through the magnet
- The technologist will step into the control area, but stay in constant contact with you both visually & through an intercom
- As the exam proceeds, you will hear a muffled thumping sound for several minutes at a time
- It is important to lie as still as possible , any movement during this time will blur the picture
- The exam usually takes 30 to 60 minutes
Safety:
Magnetic Resonance Imaging is very safe, there are no health risks associated with the magnetic field or the radio waves used by the machine
IMPORTANT:
Any metallic substance can cause discomfort or injury if placed in the magnetic field**
